What To Make for Valentine's Day: 3 Easy Chocolate Recipes
Thursday, February 9, 2012 - 00:19

Valentine’s Day is upon us, and while the occasion definitely conjures up thoughts of romance and roses, there’s one indulgence I really look forward to every year: chocolate recipes! To say I’m addicted to the stuff would be an understatement, and Valentine’s Day recipes are the perfect excuse for indulging my sweet tooth.
Luckily for us chocoholics wondering which Valentine's Day recipes to choose from, it's not necessary to limit your enjoyment to a simple box of chocolates. There are plenty of ways to incorporate the sweet stuff into a romantic meal that you’re both sure to love. Here are a few of my favorites:
Valentine's Day Recipes #1: Chocolate Waffles
For breakfast in bed, serve your sweetie some chocolate waffles on V-Day morning. This easy chocolate waffles recipe comes right from DinnerTool.

Valentine's Day Recipes #2: Chocolate Sloppy Joes
One of my favorite meals to make around this time of the year are chocolate sloppy joes! I got the recipe from the Hershey's site (hey, they know a thing or two about chocolate!), but tweaked it by using turkey instead of beef and I also don’t add in any extra salt to my meals. And while Sloppy Joes might not be the most romantic dish out there, my whole family loves them. Bonus: these are so simple to make—it takes about five minutes to put the whole thing together!
Ingredients:
1-1/2 pounds lean ground turkey
1 to 1-1/4 cups chopped onion
1 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons cocoa
1-1/2 tablespoons yellow mustard
2-1/2 teaspoons chili powder
1-1/2 teaspoons ground black pepper
Directions:
Cook ground beef and onion in large skillet on medium heat until beef is browned and onion is tender. Drain excess fat. Stir in ketchup, cocoa, mustard, chili powder, pepper and salt. Heat 10 to 15 minutes on low heat or until hot. Serve in buns. Cover; refrigerate leftovers. About 4 servings.
Valentine's Day Recipes #3: Chocolate Mint Shake
For a sweet drink that also doubles as dessert, I'd recommend shaking things up a bit. We seriously love milk shakes in our family, and this chocolate mint shake is one of the best I’ve ever had –and so easy to make. To cut calories, I use yogurt instead of ice cream.
Ingredients:
4 scoops vanilla ice cream or yogurt
1/4 cup skim milk
1/4 cup chocolate syrup
1 drop peppermint extract
Directions:
In a blender, combine ice cream, milk, chocolate syrup and peppermint extract. Blend until smooth. Pour into glasses and serve.
